A local organization is prepping for the biggest volunteering event of its kind (American Family Insurance)

A local organization in Georgia is poised to make a difference for their community with a two-day volunteering event that will rock their town. It’s the largest event like it in the United States, so even though the event isn’t until October, they’re gearing up now.

The organization – the Gwinnett Coalition for Health and Human Services – has been running this event for 17 years, and it’s changed quite a bit over time.

Gwinnett Great Days of Service began with one day of volunteering that included 10 different projects completed by 50 people. This year, they’ll be tackling hundreds of local projects over their two-day surge of service.

In the past, the community has come together during this event to feed the hungry in their town, visit with seniors, and generally lend a helping hand where needed. Their sights are set a little bigger this year, in the hopes of helping veterans in the Gwinnett area, in addition to other noble efforts.

The Gwinnett Coalition for Health and Human Services is partnering with their local chapter of United Way to make this year’s project bigger than it’s even been. And since there were over 63,000 volunteers donating their time and efforts in 2016, this will be no small feat.
